King City Men's League Rules
League Information
- All players must wear full equipment, including helmets. Face masks, visors etc. is optional but recommended. No player may take the ice if not properly dressed.
- All game times are scheduled for the ½ hour ex: 8:30am, 9:30am, 10:30am, and 11:30am. The first 10 minutes will be for flooding, followed by a five minute warm-up. The referee will start play at 15 minutes to the hour. The game will consist of 3 fifteen minute running time periods.
- Teams will change ends at the end of each period.
- There will be 2 referees for each game.
- Each team will be made up of 10 skaters and a goalie.
- Team captains are responsible for helping collect $15 per game, per substitute, which is to be paid to the arena attendant. Team captains will be supplied 2 spare jerseys and it is their responsibility for making sure all substitute players wear a jersey and retrieve it from them after the game.
- Any players unable to play on a given Sunday must go to the king men’s hockey website and mark himself away no later than 12:00am midnight on Friday. This will allow the league to contact the appropriate subs. Any player who does not show up to a game will be fined $20. This fine must be paid prior to game time the following week. Any player missing three games without advising the league in time will be suspended for the balance of the season and playoffs.
- All players will be ranked either A, B, or C. Each team will be balanced through a draft prior to the season with equal numbers of ranked players. If a B player has to miss a game, he will be replaced with a B sub if possible, or a C. If neither is available, then the league and team captains may permit a higher-ranking player to fill the spot. No league registered player shall sub for another team with exception of goaltenders.
- Any roster changes during the season, ex: player suspensions, drop outs, or injuries will be dealt with on a per incident basis by the league. Replacement players will be drawn from the sub list.
- Players may not play if they owe money to the league for registration, fines, or any other reason. They may return to play once all balances have been paid in full.
- The rules are binding on all players belonging to the league.
Rules Governing Play
- For all game suspensions, players will be assessed a $20.00 per game penalty fee which must be paid prior to resuming regular play. This $20.00 will also be collected from any players that are ejected for a balance of a game for any reason. If a player is ejected from a game they will be forced to pay the $20.00 for that game plus $20.00 for any other games they are suspended for.
- Any major penalty will be an automatic 2 game suspension plus the balance of the game the infraction occurred in. The referee may choose to assess only one person for fighting. The league president and team captains will review any future major penalties or misconduct penalties by that player. When a player is suspended his team will not be permitted a sub.
- Any player leaving the bench to participate in a brawl or any other altercations on the ice will automatically be ejected and receive a 3 game suspension. Other penalties may also be assessed consistent with fighting infractions.
- All penalties will result in either a 3 minute (minor penalty), 7 minute (major penalty), or a 15 minute (misconduct penalty) time penalty at the discretion of the referee.
- Abuse of officials will not be tolerated. A player who verbally or physically abuses an official will be given a 3 minute (minor) penalty or a 15 minute (misconduct) penalty. Any player who receives two misconduct penalties in one game will receive an additional game misconduct as per CHA rules.
- If a penalty occurs with 60 seconds or less in the game, the clock will run and a penalty shot will be awarded to the other team. The penalty shot shall serve as the guilty player’s penalty whether the team scores on the penalty shot or not. A penalty shot shall still be awarded to a player after the final buzzer sounds if the penalty was drawn in the final 60 seconds of the game and stoppage of play did not occur to allow the player his penalty shot for drawing the penalty.
- Line changes will not be permitted in the last minute of the game. If the play is blown down at exactly 1:01 of the third period, a line change will be allowed.
- There will be no slap shots. Any player lifting any part of the hockey stick blade (heel or toe) above the knee in the act of shooting will cause a stoppage of play, and will result in the guilty players’ team receiving an automatic icing no matter where the play was blown down by the official. In the last 60 seconds of a game, taking a slap shot will result in a penalty shot being awarded to the other team. If at the discretion of the official, a slap shot is taken deliberately in a team’s defensive zone during any part of the game, a penalty may occur for delay of game.
- Making stick contact with the puck above the shoulders will result in an automatic icing to the guilty player’s team no matter where the play was blown down by the official. In the last 60 seconds of the game, high sticking the puck will result in a penalty shot being awarded to the other team.
- High sticking penalty, minor penalty. Any contact with a stick above a players shoulder will result in a 7 minute major penalty and the expulsion from that game.
- High sticking, major penalty. Any contact with a stick above a players shoulders resulting in injury will be a 7 minute major penalty, expulsion from that game and 2 consecutive games. When a team is assessed a major penalty they must play short handed for the duration of the penalty but no one else from the team is required to serve the penalty in the penalty box. The penalty time will be set on the clock, when the time expires the team may add a player from the players’ bench.
- All other league rules shall be consistent with those governing Minor Hockey and all disputes will be resolved by the league.
- Any player shall be asked to leave the ice if an official has any reason to believe that a player is intoxicated.
- For the purpose of resolving any disputes, determining suspensions, and monitoring all players and sub activity the “League” shall consist of eight team captains and the league convener. Each issue shall be resolved by a majority decision of team captains and the convener shall vote in the event of a tie.
- If a suspension is assessed to a player, the two officials and the two participating team captains will decide all decisions involving that suspension immediately following the game.
- At registration, priority is given to all league regulars returning from previous season and secondly to substitute players returning from the previous season.
- All games are no contact.
